Genital herpes - factors that increase infection risk

The ability of either HSV-1 or HSV-2 to cause either genital or oral infection provides a ready pool for repeated reinfection, especially in people who are unaware of the connection between the two conditions, or that oro-genital infection is possible.

Many people are also unaware that, once infected, herpes can be passed on even when no sores are overtly present.1
