Trends in genital herpes infection

Genital herpes infection has increased much more slowly than other STIs, having grown by only 35% in men and 28% in women over the 10 years from 1997 to 2006.1

The increasing incidence of HSV type 1 infection, particularly in young women, may reflect an increase in oral sex in this age group.2
